Pet Suggestion: Color Variation/Rarity
How Lyra's brain works: I was thinking about possible future pets. I was thinking about having a gorilla or a large primate. Then i started thinking about silverbacks gorillas. That jumped to wolves and i started looking up wolves. Then i remembered an image i saw of two wolves. One was really dark, almost black, and another was grey, like your normal stereotypical wolf and the wolves were supposed to be brother and sister.
So anyway....
Idea: Animals in the wild have some sort of color variation. Not SUPER distinct, but maybe some sort of variation.
Additional idea: Randomly in the wild....some animals have more rare colors...like albino pets. Like...1 out of 1000 wolves in the shiverpeaks will be all white. ^^ twould be fun.

^^ I actually had that concept running in my head, along with pokemon's "shiny" rare pokemon and breeding for baby skills.
It would be a REALLY cool sidegame. But i think thats too involved for guildwars (ie: Unfair to PvP in extra content).
Color variations would be simpler to implement and possible to use in Pvp.
however the super rare "golden" or "white" pets would be PvE only :P

They did have colour variations, but for some reason they got removed. You may see people with an albino lynx, although very rare. Immediate signifier of beta tester.

If they ever bring in natural variation in pets I hope they'll put in a /releasepet command, allowing you to free your pet or something. It would be such a pain to be out with your beastmaster and see a gorgeous polar bear, or rainbow moa or something, and be unable to catch it.

And I like the idea by the OP too. I'd like any kind of distinction between some pets.

I totally agree. There should be variation in the way the pets look. It would give them personality and add interest.
This is true for cats as well. Think of how many great variations big cats have in their markings and here we have only lynx and Melandru's Stalkers which are nothing all that much as far as coloration/markings. Think Clouded Leopard or Snow Leopard or Lynx (the bob tailed variety like we have) or Tiger or Lion. Variety is everything.
There should be wolves adapted to the desert that look different than the mountain ones.
I also think it would be cool to have a flying bird like an eagle or hawk that could do aerial attacks.

(Ive suggested similar ideas for pets here too before. I hope there is some variation in looks for pets in upcoming factions.)
(i.e. "wolf" and "snow wolf" ingame have the same look...)

i think they should add birds with arial attacks, that would be sweet. like kd attacks and such.. they could be big eagles that ride around on rangers shoulders....

That could get really out of hand, i would like it if there were different pet colors...and a ton more pets.

But fun, yes?
Actually if they had different coloured pets, I like the idea of hunting down the pink or albino leopard in the deep dark jungles of Cantha (random spawn though).

If they do they should actually put normal pet colors in...no pink or neon green!

wow what a terrible idea, you WANT a reason to have to go out and look for an animal 1000 times over???
here, ill save you the waiting, go to mineral springs 500 times in a row then change the color settings on your monitor so your pet looks white. I have completely recreated the experience you are looking for without you having to wait for the devs to impliment it happy hunting.

Pet dye is the solution here.
With pet armour, I like the idea of having socks and a hat on my bear

The point is this:
To give PVE something to do.
YES! I want to spend HOURS/DAYS/MONTHS searching for a specific pet color then more time raising it to the exact evolution i want. It something to do, but it gives me ZERO advantage in PvP.
How can you not agree with that? If you dont like it, you dont have to do it, grab the first melandru stalker you see, more power to you. It wont disadvantage you since all pets are essentially the same.

luv.that.sample.pic..
I'd definitely enjoy exploring and discovering for that elusive type of pet. then have the ability to "parade it" through outposts and cities for others to see.
/sit booboo sit. hehe.

I do like the idea, but I have always wanted a /releasepet command - it's absurd to have to go to Jarrel. I know that the fear would be releasing pets to let others tame them, but simply make a released pet untamable :P
And yes to multiple skins for pets - and I like your sample - all fairly realistic skins, rather than purple and golden and fluorescent pink. For birds it could be very bright colours though, and lizards too... where's my Gila monster?
